Light

Between Dust and Light is a vanitas diptych exploring the tension between mortality and the fleeting presence of life.

The two images are designed to be displayed side by side so that the divided skull reunites across the boundary of the frames. Individually, each image is incomplete; together they restore the whole, reinforcing the central vanitas meditation that life and death exist in quiet dialogue.

In Dust, a drooping stem of dried grass bows over the skull, symbolising decline, time, and the inevitability of decay.

In Light, the opposing half of the skull is accompanied by a burning candle, a traditional emblem of consciousness and the fragile persistence of life.

The separation of the skull across two works reflects the human condition itself: suspended between dust and light.
